The Inhabitants

February 4, 2015:

Hello! This show has come to an earlier end than was initially planned and was taken down on February 3.  Thanks to all those who came out to see it and my sincere apologies to those who had  planned to go see it later in February.   I really appreciate all of your support!

Jeffrey Skemp

The Inhabitants is a photo essay by Jeffrey Skemp that is now up at the Northeast Library at 2200 Central Avenue in NE Minneapolis, MN through February 28, 2015.

The Inhabitants incorporates images from two continents, Africa and North America, to explore how all things—human, animal, living, dead, animate or inanimate—emanate a sense of place (settled or unsettled or otherwise) and how all things, at least temporarily, inhabit this world together.

The Inhabitants is also strictly autobiographical, weaving real people, places and events, both near and far, into one essay.

The hours of the Northeast Library:

Monday: 9 - 5, Tuesday: 9 - 5, Wednesday: 12 - 8, Thursday: 12 - 8, Friday: 9 - 5, Saturday: 9 - 5, Sunday: closed

IMPORTANT: please note since The Inhabitants is up in the community/meeting room (a room that can be reserved for groups to use for hours at a time) it's possible that there may be a meeting occurring that can not be disturbed. So, please check the meeting room schedule here.

Special Thanks to Laurie Simenson who made this exhibit possible and to the Jerome Foundation who helped fund Skemp’s return journey to Ethiopia in October 2013.

This coming Saturday, November 1 at 11:00 AM in the conference room of the Pierre Bottineau Library in NE Minneapolis,  I will be discussing my photo easy, The Inhabitants, currently being shown in the children's literature room until November 28.

Among other things, I will be discussing some of the stories behind the photographs as well as how being a poet has greatly effected my approach to taking photographs.

Included in this talk will be the presentation of photographs and video that I took while on my first trip to Ethiopia in early 2007.

Also, for the first time, I will be screening video footage that I recorded while on my latest trip to Ethiopia in October of 2013.

There will also be a Q & A session.
